What’s Happening This Weekend In Magic the Gathering?

Arena


Arena Open: Kaldheim Sealed


Day one of the Arena Open begins this Saturday, January 21st, with best-of-three and best-of-one Kaldheim Sealed. You can enter as many times as you wish on day one, with each event being 5,000 gems or 25,000 gold to enter. Get seven wins in best-of-one or four wins in best-of-one to get a ticket to day two.


Day two of the Arena Open begins on Sunday, January 22nd, with best-of-three Kaldheim draft. Remember, two drafts occur on day two of the Arena Open. The first draft occurs between 6 am and 8 am PT (9 am EST and 11 am EST), and you have until 12 pm PT (3 pm EST) to complete your first four matches. If you go 4-0 or 3-1 in the first draft, congratulations! You have made it into the second draft, where you can compete for real cash.


The second draft of day two occurs between 12 pm PT and 2 pm PT (3 pm EST and 5 pm EST), and you have until 6 pm PT (9 pm EST) to complete up to four matches. If you get at least two match wins, you win cold hard cash! Two match wins gets you $500, three gets you $1000, and four gets you $2000.


Decathlon Finals


The Decathlon Finals are finally here! If you received at least three Decathlon tokens from Decathlon events in the past couple of weeks, you are immediately entered. With three tokens you get one entry into the finals, but with seven or more tokens you receive two entries into the event.


The finals begin on Saturday, January 21st, at 8 am PT (11 am EST) and end on Sunday, January 22nd, at 11 am PT (2 pm EST). The format is best-of-three Phantom Duplicate Sealed, where each player will receive an identical pool of cards to build their limited deck from. If you win all four of your matches, your prizes include one of every card from Phyrexia: All Will Be One, four Mythic rare wildcards, four Rare wildcards, a Phage the Untouchable avatar, four Player Draft tokens, and five Showcase basic lands from Core Set 2021.

Modern Super Qualifier


Earn an invitation to the Regional Championship this Saturday, January 21st, in the Modern Super Qualifier. The event begins at 7 am PT (10 am EST), with the entry being 40 Event Tickets, 400 Play Points, or 40 MOCS Season 1 Qualifier Points. Prizes are paid out to the top 128 players, and the top four finishers earn an invitation to the Regional Championship!


Limited Super Qualifier


Similar to the Modern Super Qualifier, you can also earn an invitation to the Regional Championship through the Limited Super Qualifier on Sunday, January 22nd at 7 am PT (10 am EST). The event will be Sealed The Brothers’ War, with a cut to the top eight. The top eight will draft The Brothers’ War, and once again, the top four finishers will get a seat to the Regional Championship, with the top 128 receiving prize payouts. The entry fee is the same as the Modern Super Qualifier.


Constructed Challenges

Make sure to take advantage of the Constructed Challenges on MTGO. There are challenges in many constructed formats, including Vintage, Pauper, Legacy, Modern, Standard, and Pioneer. Whatever kind of constructed you enjoy playing, there is a challenge for you!


The challenges occur at all different times throughout the weekend, and you can find all their times here. The entry is 30 Event Tickets or 300 Play Points, and there is a cut to top eight after a number of Swiss rounds. Prizes vary based on attendance, but they include Play Points, Treasure Chests, Qualifier Points, and even a set of the most recent Standard set.


Limited Challenges

Like the Constructed Challenges, Limited Challenges are also occurring this weekend on MTGO. The format is Sealed The Brothers’ War, and the entry is either 40 Event Tickets or 400 Play Points. There is no cut to top eight, but the prize structure remains similar to the Constructed Challenges. You can see more about the Limited Challenges here.
