A difficult deck to make, but well worth it!
With the Battlegrounds running rampant with Quillboar decks, it can be very difficult to put together the synergies of past seasons, but this one is always a joy to build and sometimes unstoppable! The core of this deck utilizes Monstrous Macaw to trigger Goldrinn, the Great Wolf to pump your team of beasts, but the card that brings it all together is Baron Rivendare which, if golden, makes your deathrattles trigger an additional two times! Put this together with a golden Monstrous Macaw, and you have six deathrattle triggers total, giving your beasts a whopping +24/+24! I managed to add a little bit of spice to this deck, placing a golden Selfless Hero at the front with taunt. This ensures that it will trigger before the Macaw attacks, and because of Baron Rivendare, will end up giving the entire team divine shield. This allowed my Monstrous Macaw to get a couple of attacks in each game, making the deck near unstoppable.
The match started out great, using Vol'jin's ability to create some big creatures with some good effects that propelled me quickly into the midgame. The midgame was a little bit slower, but getting a golden Selfless Hero guaranteed a spot in the middle of the pack. Getting into the late game was a little bit rough, and with five players still in the match, I was knocked down to two health. Things really turned around when I was able to create a golden Monstrous Macaw and discovered a Goldrinn, the Great Wolf, giving me a quick-win that got me into the top four. The top four consisted of two Quillboar opponents, an Elemental opponent, and myself. The following turn I was able to get a golden Baron Rivendare and discovered Maexxna to defeat my Elementals opponent, pushing me into the final two. In my last turn in the tavern, I was unable to make any changes to the deck, but it mattered little since I was able to overpower my final Quillboar opponent easily to take first place!
Overall the deck was a lot of fun to make and play with, and as overpowered as it was, I still believe that Quillboars are the way to go. I think one of the main reasons I was able to clinch this win was because my two Quillboar opponents did not have the time to appropriately set up their decks, and if this match had gone for another several turns I am sure that it would have been a much more difficult match to win. Quillboars may have been nerfed a little bit, but it is still arguably the most powerful archetype to go into and it is definitely in the top four in almost every match I'm in, which is why it feels so good when you can defeat two of them in the top four with this awesome deck!
