Freshen up your city with this quick and easy worker-placement game... with mints!
It’s been just about a year but my Mint Works collection finally arrived!
When Covid struck, playing board games with family became hard and thus my family resorted to Tabletopia for gaming. It was then we stumbled upon Mint Works. The publisher, Poketto, offered a Kickstarter early last year showcasing Mint Control, so my family decided to split the Oligarch package with me: 2 Mint Works, 1 Mint Control, and 1 Mint Delivery.
I could not have been happier when they arrived. My family and I love to travel and finding travel-sized games is a huge win for us. It’s small enough to bring along with you wherever you go! You never know where there might be a wait, or a chance to introduce some friends to a simple game! Mint Works is 10-15 minutes long which is perfect for filler time, such as before dinner. It is a quick, worker-placement game where you use mints as currency to buy and add buildings to your neighborhood. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game wins! This game is fun for all ages, friend groups and families alike!
Mash Up Of: Splendor, Agricola, Citadels
ART: 4/10
Simple, modern, and the card’s background features dirt stains that give the aged appearance of a mint tin. The design choice really makes you feel like this is a mint tin that has survived who knows how many years which bumps the art for me.
STORYTELLING: 1/10
Not meant to be character-driven, but the single-player rules add some flavorful characters.
COMPONENTS: 3/10
Not many pieces. Mints are just wood. Embossed tin is great. Card material is textured which is nice.
COMPLEXITY: 1/10
You get money, buy something, get money again, build something. That’s it.
TRAVEL-FRIENDLY: 10/10
Definitely going to bring these wherever I go on the off-chance I can squeeze a quick game in.
UNIQUENESS: 4/10
Props to making a worker placement game fit into such a small area and still offer a differing experience each play-through.
