Vorinclex is one of the five praetors of New Phyrexia, aligned with the Green Sun and leader of the Vicious Swarm. He believes that New Phyrexia should be ruled by a very simple concept: survival of the fittest, with all being either a predator or prey.
In the Phyrexian’s takeover of Mirrodin, Vorinclex ruled the forest known as the Tangle and compleated the local elves, including a hero of Mirrodin, Glissa. Glissa would become Vorinclex’s number two, and he would delegate most of his responsibilities to her. Uninterested in much beyond being a predator, he did not involve himself in the plotting of the other Praetors. This made it easy for Elesh Norn to manipulate him as she rose to power on New Phyrexia.
Elesh Norn would send Vorinclex to the plane of Kaldheim for an incredibly important task: to capture a piece of the World Tree. Arriving on the plane through the Planar Bridge, he would attack and infect the planeswalker Tibalt, holding an antidote for the infection until Tibalt did his bidding. Vorinclex needed a distraction, and Tibalt was more than happy to provide it.
In the chaos caused by Tibalt, Vorinclex made his move. He attacked the god Esika, who watched over the World Tree, almost killing her. With Esika down, he was able to steal a piece of Tyrite from the tree and flee back to New Phyrexia, where he delivered to Elesh Norn what she was looking for. Elesh Norn would use the Tyrite to begin growing Realmbreaker, the Invasion Tree on New Phyrexia.
Vorinclex would remain on New Phyrexia with Realmbreaker as the Phyrexians began their invasion of the Multiverse. He would meet his end when Wrenn joined with Realmbreaker and switched the locations of Zhalfir and New Phyrexia, allowing the Zhalfirin forces to invade the plane. As the Zhalfirins attacked the Praetors, Vorinclex would be beheaded by the Askari knight Shella.
