Quintorius Kand, or “Quint” as his friends call him, is a loxodon planeswalker hailing from the plane of Arcavios. On Arcavios, he is a mage as well as a student of Lorehold, one of the five colleges of Strixhaven. He is an expert on history and ancient artifacts and constantly strives to discover the truth hidden in the multiverse around him. As is customary to the students of Lorehold, Quint aligns with red and white mana.
Life at Strixhaven
Quint was born a nomad and grew up tending to his family’s flocks of sheep on the plains of Arcavios. From an early age, he was well aware of his magical abilities, and when he came of age, he attended the Rundlestrom Military Academy. However, his time at the Academy was short-lived, and he was quickly expelled due to poor coordination.
Soon after, Quint was granted a scholarship to attend Strixhaven University and used his time at the school to study the history of his race. He could often be found reading old books in the Biblioplex, the largest library in the multiverse.
Although Quint was a hardworking student, he often suffered from the need to explore and was not content to sit around studying all day. He began exploring ancient ruins, and on one such adventure, he stumbled upon a spirit named Asterion. Asterion had also been an adventurer before his death, and Asterion agreed to journey with Quint, helping him discover the lost Loxodon city of Zantafar.
Invasion of New Phyrexia
Quint was still a student at Strixhaven when the Phyrexian invaded his plane. The Phyrexians quickly overwhelmed the school, and Quintorius became one of the few remaining survivors. Liliana Vess, a teacher at Strixhaven at the time, tasked Quintorius and a couple of students with discovering the Invocation of the Founders.
This potent spell would require one student from each of the five colleges of Strixhaven and would return Strixhaven to its original form without the Phyrexians. The students located the spell, but before they could complete it, one of the five students became distracted, and the magic began to unravel.
Without hesitation, Quintorius took his classmate's part of the spell upon himself, pouring his very being into the spell. His life force was able to repair the spell enough for it to finish; however, the resolution was not perfect.
The spell caused the Phyrexian portal to close and the Invasion Tree to recede. However, the Biblioplex collapsed, destroying Strixhaven and burying Quint under a pile of rubble. When the students dug through the wreckage to rescue their fallen classmate, there was no sign of the loxodon anywhere.
Ixalan
While the students of Strixhaven believe Quintorius to be deceased, he is very much the opposite. When Quintorius was pouring his being into the Invocation of the Founders, his planeswalker spark ignited, causing him to planeswalk away from Arcavios.
Now free to explore as he wished, Quint traveled to many planes, collecting histories and exploring old ruins. While on his journeys, he kept coming across the same symbols on many different planes, leading him to believe that there was a civilization with the ability to planeswalk and spread their culture. He nicknamed these people the “Coin Empire.”
Eventually, Quint was summoned to Ixalan by Saheeli Rai to help uncover an ancient civilization that she believed existed on the plane. He was brought to Orazca, where he was introduced to Saheeli and Huatli. With Quintorius’s help, Huatli solved an ancient puzzle in one of the temples, opening a massive door leading underground.
Quintorius agreed to accompany Huatli and her compatriots into the caverns below Ixalan, and they soon came upon an ancient abandoned city. Quint was able to commune with the ancient spirits in the city, and a spirit named Abuelo agreed to guide them through the tunnels.
Before the group could go far, they were attacked by giant fungus creatures named mycoids, but were saved by a group of merfolk known as the River Heralds. The River Heralds brought the group to a massive sealed door, and with Abuelo’s help, Quintorius was able to open the door.
Once inside, the party discovered the plane's core and the ancient people who lived there, known as the Oltecs. Before they got too far, they found that vampires had infiltrated the core and had awakened the bat god Aclazotz, who turned all of the vampires into demons. In a fierce battle, Quintorius and his friends aided the Oltecs in defeating the vampires and causing Aclazotz to flee.
Soon after the battle, Quintorius met with Oltec priests to learn more about the civilization's history. He was brought to an ancient ruin named Colony’s End, where he discovered more indications of the Coin Empire, which he had been searching for.
Within the ruins, Quint found a room filled with shattered glass tanks, which once held something living. Towards the back, Quintorius found a tank that was still intact, and inside it, he found an enormous creature with claws and gray legs. Before he could get a closer look, the creature in the tank moved, causing Quintorius to planeswalk away.
