Legends & Lore - Lord Windgrace

Lord Windgrace was a panther planeswalker who hailed from the Urborg region of the plane of Dominaria. Born prior to the Brothers' War, he was a leader of a panther tribe in Urborg, protecting the forest until Urza’s Sylex blast sunk Urborg into the swamp it is today.

Between the Sylex blast and his years watching Urza and his artifacts, Windgrace had a deep hatred for artifacts of all kinds. This made him an eager ally of Urza during the Phyrexian invasion of Dominaria, becoming one of nine titans (all of them planeswalkers) assembled by Urza to combat the invasion. He would travel with his fellow planeswalkers to Phyrexia itself on Urza’s mission to destroy Phyrexia with titan engines and soul bombs.

After planting soul bombs on multiple spheres of Phyrexia, Urza was corrupted by the Phyrexians. Forced to turn on Urza, Windgrace and the other titans activated the planted soul bombs before planeswalking back to Dominaria to fight the final battle with Yawgmoth. One of only two titans to survive the war (Freyalise being the second), he continued on as the protector and leader of Urborg.

Windgrace protected Urborg against unnatural artifice through the culmination of the effects of the Phyrexian invasion. The invasion created rifts throughout Dominaria where the Phyrexians had broken through, including the Rathi overlay that had merged with Urborg. At the behest of the planeswalkers Teferi and Karn, Windgrace closed the time rift in Urborg, sacrificing himself in the process. Protecting Urborg with this final act of selflessness, he cast a spell to fuse his spirit with the land, becoming its protector forever.

Windgrace’s followers continue his legacy, protecting the land from the artifice of the Cabal, with disciples like Aryel leading the defense.
