Legends & Lore: Lord Skitter, Sewer King

Lord Skitter

Underneath the city of Edgewall, ancient dwarven ruins lay forgotten by the people of Eldraine. Once a thriving city of the dwarves, now millions and millions of rats inhabit the ruins, all fighting every day just to survive.

One of these rats, named Skitter, was an ordinary rat until one day, he was imbued with demonic blood, making him grow in size and strength, as well as granting him the ability to speak. Full of sinister new thoughts, Skitter proclaimed himself the king of the rats, renaming himself Lord Skitter.

Soon after proclaiming himself king, Lord Skitter encountered the human bard Totentanz within the ruins. Using his cunning personality, Lord Skitter convinced Totentanz to help the rats, giving him a magic pipe to lull the people of Edgewall into the ruins to become food for the rats that dwelled there.

Lord Skitter's Blessing

With Lord Skitter’s promise of power on his mind, Totentanz set right to work in the town above. Soon, droves of townsfolk were driven into the ruins, becoming rat food for Lord Skitter and his denizens. Once the rats had grown in power, they stormed the town above, swarming the city and overcoming its citizens.

Totentanz

Realizing that their very lives were at stake, the people of Edgewall united and began to drive back the horde of rats. During the battle, the townsfolk were able to steal Totentanz’s magic pipe, using it to drive the rats back to the dwarven ruins beneath the town.

Once the people had successfully driven all the rats out of the city, they used the pipe’s magic to turn the rats upon their masters, and Totentanz and Lord Skitter were consumed by their own swarm. Without the coercion of Lord Skitter and Totentanz’s magic pipe, the rats within the ruins returned to being just ordinary rats, and the crisis was averted.

However, the people of Edgewall are still wary and believe that Lord Skitter could still return one day to enact his revenge upon the city…
