Legends & Lore - Hazoret the Fervent

Hazoret is one of the five gods of the Egyptian inspired plane of Amonkhet. Her jackal head towers over the citizens of Naktamun, and prior to the arrival of Nicol Bolas she was the god of compassion and inspiration.

Years ago, the dragon planeswalker Nicol Bolas as a part of his multiverse spanning schemes sought out Amonkhet. After defeating the five gods, including Hazoret, he reshaped the plane to his liking. Wiping the memory of the gods, he established a society based around five trials, intending to weed out the most powerful citizens of Naktamun for his army of eternals. All life on Amonkhet revolved around completing the five trials and becoming a part of the God-Pharaoh’s afterlife.

In this new Amonket Hazoret was the god of zeal, and presided over the fifth and final trial. Once only one warrior was left standing after combat between the participants, Hazoret would give the winner their final reward, stabbing them with her spear and adding them to the ranks of the eternals.

After the Second Sun had finally completed its journey across the sky and had settled between the Horns of Bolas, located in Naktamun, the Hours began. The army of eternal warriors, as well as the Scorpion, Locust, and Scarab Gods were loosed upon Amonkhet. Nicol Bolas returned as well at this fateful hour, and his deceit of the five gods and people of Amonkhet was revealed.

The gods did battle against Bolas and his army yet again, but one by one they fell until only Hazoret and Bontu remained. In this moment Bontu revealed he had betrayed his fellow gods in the past, helping Bolas conquer the plane and wipe their memories. Hazoret, the only remaining god loyal to the people, killed Bontu and grievously wounded the Scorpion God enough so that Samut could finish it off.

In the aftermath of the Hour of Devastation, Hazoret and Samut collected the survivors of Naktamun and fled into the desert. As the only living god remaining on Amonkhet she would become known as the God Survivor, protecting its people from the dangers of the desert.

During the War of the Spark, where Nicol Bolas’ plans came to fruition on the plane of Ravnica and he attempted to trap and harvest planeswalker sparks intending to become an all-powerful god, a group of planeswalkers traveled to Amonkhet for Hazoret’s help. Hazoret would lend the planeswalkers her spear for the fight against Bolas, which had been given to her by Bolas at the time of his conquest of Amonkhet and retained a small piece of Bolas’ essence. In the final battle with Nicol Bolas on Ravnica Niv-Mizzet would wield the spear and defeat Bolas by stabbing him in the back.
