Deck Overview
This past weekend was the Arena Open, featuring the Alchemy format. Alchemy is one of the least played and least liked formats on Arena, but if they are going to make it a tournament format, we have to play it. I tested a few of the tier-one decks for the Open, and it came down to either RB Sacrifice or Esper Midrange, and we ultimately went with RB Sacrifice.
Playing best-of-one on day one, my prediction was that Mono-Red and Goblins would be popular choices, and we nailed that guess. I played against Mono-Red four times, going 3-1, and Goblins once, winning easily. On our way to a 7-2 finish, we also played against Mono-White (1-0), RG Werewolves (1-0), and RB Sacrifice (1-1).
Day two started off strong with match wins against Esper Midrange, RB Sacrifice, and 4C Oracle. Then we lost tough and close matches against Esper Midrange and RB Midrange opponents that were well prepared for the RB Sacrifice matchup.
Overall, this deck is a powerhouse. Assembling combinations of Oni-Cult Anvil and Sanguine Brushstroke create these long, grindy games that are tough for you to lose. Voldaren Epicure, Bloodtithe Harvester, and Shambling Ghast provide incredible value. Braids, Arisen Nightmare gives you great flexibility to draw extra cards and go after lands if your opponent stumbles on mana. On top of that synergy, you get to play two of the best cards in the format, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, and Fable of the Mirror Breaker.
